Meet Kate Frese!

Tell us about yourself!

I am from Lancaster, PA, but currently live in Philly. I’m a credentialed professional hockey photographer for the NHL and AHL, mainly covering the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms. I’ve been a hockey fan ever since I played floor hockey in elementary school gym class and asked my parents to put on a hockey game for me. I got to witness the Legion of Doom in their heyday and immediately fell in love with ice hockey.

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

I found WHL on Twitter and started following. Upon seeing their tweets, I knew I wanted to be more involved than just a follower since I am trying to increase my involvement with women’s hockey.

What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?

I can’t wait to meet more female hockey fans and players and help spread the word on how awesome the sport is.

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

A lot of people assume I can ice skate well because of my job. I played roller hockey a bit as a kid, but when I attempted to switch to ice I got frustrated and quit. I chose to watch ice hockey and play roller hockey. Someone teach me how to ice skate better!

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

Any member of the Nairobi Ice Lions team! I love that these women play hockey in an area not known for it.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

If someone tells you that you can’t do something because you’re a woman, do it and do it better than any man. Tough out the adversities because your struggles may mean less struggles for women who follow in your footsteps.

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

That it receives the same amount of support and respect as men’s hockey.
