TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!

My name is Bella McKee. I am from Irma, Alberta but I live with a billet family in Kitscoty, Alberta during the hockey season. I played ¨B¨ hockey in Irma until I was 11 and went to Lloyd to play Bantam AAA as an underage. I have been in Lloydminster ever since. After three years with the Bantam AAA Icecats I moved up to the PWM Midget AAA Steelers where I am currently wrapping up my third and final season. Next year I am committed to playing division 1 hockey with Union College in Schenectady, New York.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE A WHL BRAND AMBASSADOR?

I am a volunteer writer for WHL already so when I saw the opportunity to promote women’s hockey even more by being an ambassador I thought why not!?

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A #WHLAMBASSADOR?

As a #WHLAMBASSADOR I am looking forward to representing and spreading the word about WHL and women’s hockey in general. The women’s game is very under-appreciated and I want to be part of the movement to change this.

WHAT’S SOMETHING NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU?

Not a lot of people know that I love to listen and analyze music of all genres!

IF YOU COULD SIT DOWN AND HAVE DINNER WITH ONE FEMALE HOCKEY PLAYER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

If I could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player it would be Emerance Maschmeyer. I participated in a goalie camp with Emerance a few years ago and was shocked at how down to earth and friendly she was. Our hockey journeys have some similarities and I would love to sit and talk to her about making Team Canada and what it takes to do so.

WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN IN HOCKEY OR IN LIFE?

The best advice that I have ever been given is that you never know who is watching you. You may be a role model to a lot of silent admirers that you know nothing about. Represent yourself with character and humility and always push to be better in every aspect of your life.

WHAT’S YOUR DREAM FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY?

My dream for women’s hockey is to someday see it as a career for women. I would love to see a women’s version of the NHL where players are being paid and the fan base is huge and selling out arenas the size of Rogers Place in Edmonton. I want to see women get credit for their skill and hard work just as the men do.
