MEET BLAYNE DUSSOLD!
Tell us about yourself!
I am from Union, Missouri and I play for the St. Louis AAA Blues 14u team. This is my third season with this organization. I have been playing hockey since I was six years old and I just turned 13. I started playing on the boys teams first and loved it, I kinda wish I could still have the time to play on a boys team also, but the AAA girls organization has a busy schedule that keeps me from being able to play both. I also play other sports so I like to keep the time I do have available for those.
What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?
I wanted to be a WHL Brand Ambassador, because I want women and girls playing hockey to become the norm so that the, “oh, you play hockey”, comments with the surprised looks become a thing of the past. I want more people to understand that hockey is for everyone, not just the guys.
What are you most looking forward to as a #WHLAMBASSADOR?
Meeting more female hockey players from all over! I love to meet new people, travel and tell everyone I meet that I play hockey and tell them about all the wonderful things Hockey has to offer for kids and girls of all ages.
What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
I love to write. I have notebooks filled with stories and am working on a fantasy book. I am a coxswain for the St. Louis Rowing Club, I play golf on weekends and run 5ks for fun when I don’t have a cross country race.
If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?
Jincy Dunne, she has been my hockey idol since the first hockey camp I took the first summer I started playing.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?
Don’t be a spare part, play like it’s the championship and practice like it’s a tryout.
What’s your dream for women’s hockey?
The sigma dissolves from around it; that the girls that are starting to play for the first time today will be able to play professionally at higher levels without ridicule. I dream that other girls don’t have to convince people that, yes, they really do play hockey, and no it’s not just a sport for boys. I really dream that other girls don’t have to hear, “well you’re so small. how do you play hockey?”
