MEET ALEXANDRA LEE!

Tell us about yourself!

I’m 11 years old, and I will be a 7th grader in the fall!  I go to the Rectory School in Connecticut! I wanted to play hockey ever since I first started ice skating at three years old and seeing my older brother learn to play hockey. I love everything about it:  the skating, competitiveness, team bonding, and most of all, I feel like there is no sport like hockey. Last season, I played for three teams: U10 Tier 1, for a high school girls team, and for my school. I was playing hockey almost every single day of the week, and I loved every minute of it. Looking forward to this season!

What made you want to be a WHL Brand Ambassador?

I came across the Women’s Hockey Life Instagram page and I was inspired by the WHL brand ambassadors. I felt like I could do the same, inspire others, especially girls, to be strong and be the best they can be by trying their best. I also love the idea of being a good role model for girls who are thinking of playing hockey, or girls who are learning to play hockey. I want to empower them and let them know that girls can do anything.

What’s something not a lot of people know about you?

I like hockey the most when it comes to sports, but generally, I love all sports. I love to ski, I play volleyball for my school and lacrosse. I also competed in martial arts competitions since I was around seven years old. I love to travel, play with my baby brother, and I also love making slime.

If you could sit down and have dinner with one female hockey player, who would it be and why?

It would be Hilary Knight. She seems to work hard at what she loves to do (hockey), but at the same time, she is humble and down-to-earth. I would love to know where her passion for hockey came from.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given in hockey or in life?

My grandpa always tell me the Ernest Hemingway quote, “Unceasing effort is the price of success.” I always try to remember the quote. During the lockdown, I practiced shooting and stick handling a lot at home, and I already feel like my hockey game is so much better! I am looking forward to this season!

My mom also tells me, “Don’t compare yourself with others and compete with them…. always compete with yourself,” which is so true… because I am always trying to better my game and myself!

What’s your dream for women’s hockey?

My dream is for women’s hockey to grow as much as men’s hockey and that women can make the same salary as men do in hockey. I would like to inspire girls out there that this sport is not only for boys, but girls can rock the hockey game.
